FASHION ICON GILES DEACON- brief interview

Giles was invited as main  Juror to the latest Mercedes Benz Fashion Edition held at Faena Hotel last November

He is one of the  ìt designers of London `s arena right now, and is certainly very commited to his creative path.
Naturally the designer has built his craftsmanship at St Martin`s College where he shared experiences with Stella & Alexander, his oldtimes  colleagues .He then made fashion collaborations, to Bottega Venetta amongst them and other high street brit brands..

On this occasion, I had the pleasure to know his point of view on fashion, & other....

Regarding Merecedes Benz Fashion Edition at Faena Hotel, which was your favorite argentinian collection and why ? What makes a collection successful?

Argentine fashion really seems to be coming into it's own. I really like its European sensibility with Latin passion.

I really took a very pleasant surprise with the variety of talent that I had the pleasure of judging for this year's Fashion Edition Buenos Aires. The quality of work and the unique concept fashion designers used to develop each piece was really impressive. For this, I think it would be important that more Argentine and South American designers reach a global projection.

The criteria I used to select the designers was:

-individuality

-consistency of vision

-use of fabric/colour and proportion

-business viability

Taking all this aspects into account, the collection that surprised me the most was El Camarín with its youth sophisticated collection. The delicacy of the embroidery worked in simple styles, gives a timeless vision of the future.

Please share with us your advice in order to start up a fashion business

To make a business and consistently produce unique collections, requires a huge amount of dedication and work from the whole team of a designer. I do personally think a good designer benefits from having a broad understanding of the industry from high street to couture.

Are there any muses that affected your recent past collections? What attracted you from them? Did they participate in any runway??

For my spring/summer 2012 collection I got inspired from: Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust; Kraftwerk Kling Klang Machine No 1 application on iPad; and the catalogue of The Crash Exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery.

In London, which are your favorite spots?

Personally, I think that anyone taking a walk from Soho to Shoreditch, in London will find lots of great places to discover.

Who do you admire in the fashion business ?

Miuccia Prada, Monsieur Courrèges and Elsa Schiaparelli are my design heroes.

Which are your professional projects for 2012 ?

After two successful trips to Asia, the next step for the brand would be to expand into the Asian market, a new and huge market. I consider it´s really challenging.

MY FAVORITE LOOKS RUNWAY SUMMER 2012
